Ernie Dettore
Educator. Writer. And now, artist.
Growing up in the Rankin and Braddock area, I have been aware of Pittsburgh's place in American glass manufacturing. From my early 20s, I was interested in searching for and collecting glass bottles. This may have had some impact on my later exploration of glass and art.

Classroom Teacher
As a classroom teacher, I never believed in worksheets. I always wanted my students to express themselves in their own way when drawing a figure, a scene, or a setting. I didn’t believe in all-white snowmen, a single face color for Santa Claus, and so on.

Professor

Researcher
As a researcher, I found that the benefits of art for young children are many. Art serves as a catalyst for children’s brain development, for example in problem-solving skills and healthy self-expression.

Advocate
As an advocate, I have always believed that art can reach all the domains of development: physical, intellectual, emotional, and social, as well as aesthetic.
